Biography: Kathryn Makinson

Flamework Glass Bead Artist

I live a happy life in the middle of nowhere just outside of Franktown, Ontario. My 25 acres of Beckwith bedrock is home to me; my family and a variety of creatures great and small. My love of the natural world inspires my work and I love experimenting with new ideas and materials.

My unique glass bead pendants are fashioned of Italian Murano glass, fine milled silver, fire and are handmade at my studio in "The Cuckoo's Nest". To ensure the durability and beauty of each piece, the beads are finished in a glass kiln. What you see captured in each bead is the artist's attempt to mirror the beauty of nature surrounding her. Colours taken from the night time sky, silky water and fiery sunsets are reflected in each bead's personality.
