Biography: Catharina Breedyk Law

Fiber Artist

Catharina was born in Holland and came to Canada when she a child. She presently lives in Perth, Ontario where her husband has built her a fabulous studio where she is now able to create day and night, playing with fabrics, fibre, beads, paints and anything else that may strike her fancy.

Cathy has been working as a fibre artist since retiring from a career in Special Education in 1998. Her work reflects her passion for colour, fibre and the needle arts. She interprets the world around her in a distinctive style using free motion embroidery and quilting. In her work she finds it is the process that excites her. To jump into unknown territory, forcing herself to solve the design and technical problems along the way is what challenges her.

She has also won numerous awards, her latest entry "Sunny Daisies" was chosen for first place in a Janome Canada Sewing Challenge 2005/ Wall Art. Cathy's work has been in the Canadian Quilter's Association Juried Show three times. As well "Terry's Bears" hung in Houston and won first place and viewers' choice in the Ottawa Valley Quilters' Guild Show.

Along with these awards her work is well represented the Side Street Gallery in Wellington, Ontario, the Botanical Glassworks and Gallery in Barry's Bay, Ontario and The Tay River Gallery in Perth, Ontario. As well, Cathy adds curator to her list of accomplishments when she organized the "Creativitea" Exhibit at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum for the Out of the Box Fibre Artist group.
