A self taught artist from St. Thomas, Ontario, Sylvia has lived in Nepean since 1960. From early childhood she displayed an unusual talent for the detail that characterized pen and art sketching. Today her artistic creations have advanced to include watercolours, oil, and acrylics.
Sylvia's love for the history of Ottawa and the Valley is reflected in her art, capturing the simplicity and peace of days gone by. As modern growth continues to alter the beauty of Ottawa's pastoral beginnings, Sylvia concentrated her artwork on the architectural magnificence of the many historical sites and heritage homes that nestle in the landscape of the Ottawa Valley.
In the past she was a guest on Regional Contact on CJOH TV. She is a strong supporter of several community organizations and annually supports her talent where needed. She has donated the controlled copyright privileges for various works to be incorporated in museum publications.
During the past year she has donated various works to community fundraising events, benefiting The Queensway Carleton Hospital, The General Hospital Rehab Center, Central Ottawa Food Bank, The Nepean Museum, The Ottawa Heart Institute, Support our Troops Campaign, The Barrhaven Legion Branch 641 and many others.
