My love of wood started in 1962 when I was twelve years of age. At this time I made my first desk top bookcase holder which I still have to this day.
I attended many Wood Shows throughout the years and made small gift items for family and friends. Approximately fifteen years ago at the Ottawa Wood Show I saw many pieces of Intersia and I was hooked.
So, for the next ten years I perfected my skills using the plans I had bought at this Wood Show.
Five years ago I made the decision to leave the traditional style and create my own work using my own plans . This has proven to have been a very positive decision of mine. It allows me to expand my ideas and create real life like images in wood.
I began creating sport logos and some wildlife in wood. Three years ago I teamed up with Laurel Cook and as a Team we create original designs.
Laurel has a working knowledge of wood and is a very talented artist. From a photograph Laurel will sketch the photo and from her sketch I will assemble a composite of hand cut pieces of wood that when I put it all together captures the pets' individual personality and expressions.
As time went on I have branched out to create originals from other photographs -- birds, tractors, horses , cows, deer, chipmunks, flowers, family coat of arms , and name templets.
All of the wood I use in my creations are grown locally in Renfrew County. I personally plane to the desired thickness and joint all of my own framework. I use a variety of specialty stains and finishes to obtain the desired colour and texture.
Currently, I am a Member of the Cobden Farmers Market and the Almonte and Area Artist Association.
