Paul was born in Victoria, BC, Canada in June 1974. He grew up in rural Ontario near the village of Killaloe, and started playing music early on, his first instrument being a portable keyboard with which he began to compose. He started playing piano, bass and electric guitar and was particularly enthralled with the sound of the bass guitar. At this time he was inspired by jazz-fusion, funk, and modern classical music. His aunt Donna Brown, a renowned classical singer, also introduced Paul to a variety of music. By high-school Paul had developed his skill on the bass and his slap style in particular was met with praise at performances.

In 1991 he moved to North Bay and joined several local rock groups. Performances at local venues featured Paul's bass solos and these groups performed as opening act for Colin James. Paul started recording tracks with a Fostex X-26 4-track, laying down beats with a Roland TR-626 and other drum machines and multi-tracking bass, guitars, synthesizers and vocals. He was prolific recording in this format from 1991-1996 and these tracks ranged from groove-based funk songs, funk/soul, jazz, folk and experimental soundscapes. In 1997 he began using computers for midi programming and audio.

Paul moved to Toronto in 1993 to study music at Humber college and graduated with honors in 1997. He was introduced to jazz music, played in several small jazz ensembles and was the bass player of the 15-piece R&B/funk group,
The Blue Jackets (for which he also wrote arrangements) making numerous appearances including City TV's morning show. Paul also played with a funk group called The Downstroke as lead singer/guitarist, performing regularly at clubs in Toronto such as Chicago's and other cities in Ontario, Quebec and the US. He went on to lead other various groups and to produce tracks for various artists.

Paul continues to explore and experiment sonically, producing a wide range of music. He currently lives happily in the country near Ottawa.
