I have had a life long passion for painting and nature, especially its spiritual aspects. Over the past thirty years my body and soul have traveled extensively across this land and, as a result, I have come to consider all of Canada as "my big backyard". The diverse scenery I have encountered from coast to coast has heightened my sense of landscape formation, structural forms, colours and patterns. The vast variety of the Canadian landscape has provided an incredible range of subjects to examine and pursue. Each has a unique spiritual message - from the overpowering awe inspired by the ruggedness of the Rockies to the quiet intimacy of small forest glens. All command respect for nature, exposing how insignificant I am while remaining a small, integral part of the environment.
I combine elements of abstraction and traditional realism in my work - stressing large bold forms and movement to forge a direct link with nature. I use vibrant colours to emphasize the boldness of the form and create movement through the evolution of interesting patterns. Some of these patterns create an anthropomorphic quality within the painting.
